Why? Well if gamers aren't already signed up and attacking enemies from work, home or school - they are certainly seeing those raunchy adverts throughout the google content network.

Now why in the hell are some nerds complaining about these adverts? Its the closest they will ever get to real or unpaid breasts in their lives!

Either way - evony accounts are going very well, with over 5 million created. They certainly have some traffic through the doors over there.

Have you heard of the new free RTS online web game called Evony? Previously called Civony, this game has been compared to World of Warcraft by some gamers and seems to be growing virally on the internet.

With nice graphics and a handy interface, gamers seem to like Evony - but is it because this web game is free? Or is it truly a powerful game with a big future?

Even Everquest players are seemingly heading over to check it out.

For people that don't have enough money to keep their World of Warcraft account updated with $20 every month, the amount of 'illegal wow servers' out there is huge. Offering free WoW gameplay through hacked realms and servers, financially challenged players can play free and get most of the benefits real Warcraft players get.

Will Hero classes will be implemented in World of Warcraft?

What I do hope they will do is come up with something special that makes you go “WOW!!”, for when WAR is coming (Warhammer Online).

Read it or not. I found it interesting to read to say the least. We’ll never know if this is fake or a blueprint for the original idea of Hero-Classes. Let’s hope we find out someday.

“I?m a senior at Concordia University, and I?m lucky enough to work at Blizzard as a part-time raid tester. Technically I’m bound by the NDA I signed (and they do reserve the right to sue my ass…), but here’s what I managed to dig up about Hero Classes:

Firstly each of the nine base classes can branch out to exactly three hero classes. For example, Druids can branch out to Druid of the Talon (nuking), Druid of the Claw (feral), and Keeper of the Grove (healing), while Paladins can be Champion of the Light (healing), Mountain King (defense, and yes they twisted lore here), and Knight of the Silver Hand (offense). More details on specific hero classes later. As you can see, each of the three hero classes plays to the strengths of that classes’ three talent trees. However the main purpose of Hero Classes is to allow players to tangibly improve their characters at max-level through means other than gear. Since Hero Classes will be released after The Burning Crusade, they will be obtained at level 70. Surprisingly they?ll not only be available to every player, without a quest, but they?ll either be trainable for free at the corresponding class trainer, or require a simple and straightforward quest. Blizzard?s reasoning is that Hero Classes should be a natural progression and reward for all players who have achieved max-level, rather than a grind for only the ?hardcore?.

There?s two catches though: 1) specializing in a Hero Class is like specializing in a profession - you?re stuck with it forever, and 2) you won?t immediately have access to all hero skills. Think of it as starting a new class - you start off with a couple of base abilities, you get a few more from class quests, and the rest come from your class trainer. The same applies to hero classes; picking a Hero Class will start you off with two new hero skills, and the rest will come from hero class training (called ?hero talents?) and hero quests. Here?s the interesting part: hero talents uses Hero Points, rather than currency or regular talent points. Blizzard hasn?t finalized how Hero Points will be earned, but they will most likely be obtained through a combination of experience/honor, and unique items that give you one or more hero points when used. Most likely those items will be given as both quest rewards, and drops off legendary mobs like Illidan and outdoor raid bosses (emphasizing the ?heroism?).

Hero talents are, naturally, learned through a fourth talent panel. However, instead of a tree, it brings up a linear list (similar to the very first incarnation of talents during beta) where you place points. There?s a massive list of things to train in, including straight stat boosts, and a variety of new skills and bonuses tailored to your hero class. Even though Hero Points are earned linearly and indefinitely, it?s going to be impossible to amass enough points to train in every single hero talent (especially because skill costs ramp up quickly). However, remember that the stated purpose of Hero Classes is end-game character advancement, not character customization.

They plan to have at least one epic hero quest chain for each hero, which will earn you the Hero?s signature move (metamorphosis for demon hunter, bladestorm for blademaster, etc). Eventually they will add more interesting hero quests.

Sublety Rogue -> Shady Thief

Holy Paladin -> Champion of the Light
Protection Paladin -> Mountain King
Retribution Paladin -> Knight of the Silver Hand

Elemental Shaman -> Far Seer
Enhancement Shaman -> Earthshaker
Restoration Shaman -> Shadow Hunter

Discipline Priest -> Archbishop or Priest of the Moon (Night Elf)
Holy Priest -> High Priest
Shadow Priest -> Dark Cleric

Of course this is subject to change (but most likely won’t). They also do plan to add more racial-specific heroes in the future. Finally, you may be thinking ?omg no demon hunter???? I forgot to mention that there are a few ?universal? hero classes that multiple classes can specialize in. Since the theme of the expansion is fighting the burning legion, all hunters, rogues, and warriors can become a demon hunter to become an expert demonslayer (which will be very useful for certain end-game dungeons), and gain some nifty bonuses to melee combat and survivability (namely metamorphasis - one hour cooldown). The other universal classes haven?t been determined yet, but the special heroes who train you in these classes should be extremely hard to find (and will most likely require you to complete quests before you can speak to them). There are three planned for the initial implementation (one more for each faction), bringing the total number of Hero Classes to exactly thirty.

Finally, every Hero Class gives one passive hero trait. The few that have been decided are the Blood Mage trait that causes you and your pets to deal 3% more fire damage, the Druid of the Claw trait that allows 70% mana regeneration in shapeshift form, and the Assassin trait that increases the damage of your first attack when coming out of stealth. As with the entire Hero Class system, they want hero traits to be relatively balanced.

Ive heard from a few people now that they have stopped playing WoW. Is World of Warcraft dropping off? Are people getting sick of the time commitment or simply sick of paying the monthly subscription to Blizzard?

Either way I would love to see the official figures.

Insiders at Blizzard are bored with the current direction of the game and have reported they aren't free to implement their own ideas which is frustrating and hampering developers on the Blizzard World of Warcraft team.

Maybe Blizzard is focusing too hard on the new Starcraft franchise?

Either way if they don't spark new life into World of Warcraft and let their programmers get some creativity back into the game - its dead in the water and their cash cow will start drying up.

Wow Virus Plague: Hakkar Archimonde

A recent virus or plague has been wiping out plenty of WoW players on certain servers in the World of Warcraft community. Believed to have started on the 'Archimonde' realm or server, the virus was thought to be an off-shoot or 'parting shot' from Hakkar.

Now its apparent the wow virus is spreading to other realms and may even have been placed in world of warcraft by players themselves. Dubbed 'Corrupted Blood Plague' no one from Blizzard has really confirmed or denied anything - so it may be a publicity stunt, a user started virus or a part or glitch in the game.

Are Blizzard doing Enough?

Blizzard the makers of World of Warcraft - are obviously even more successful than they already were after hitting the big time with WoW.

Blizzard were already a popular and successful games company, with early winners such as Diablo, Diablo2, Starcraft and the Warcraft Series.

Now with WoW achieving statistics of at least 9 million players worldwide - ALL of which are paying $20 US per month to play; this makes for some serious cash. Serious cash that Blizzard are earning.

With expansions such as Burning Crusade; it seems Blizzard are focusing on the future. Blizzcon was also a good idea to look ahead. However, are Blizzard doing enough to make WoW viable for a long future?

With all that money, surely things like the Tuesday night maintenance time could be reduced or even worked around?

With the amount of cash Blizzard are earning; couldn't they be adding to WoW almost daily? Its a little tough to think that expansions cost additional money on top of the subscription fees too - these guys are really milking this cow.

WoW Movie - World of Warcraft Movie

We have previously mentioned a World of Warcraft Movie here on this blog - but it seems the chatter from Blizzard and Movie houses is growing.

A World of Warcraft movie was more recently discussed at the Blizzcon convention.

Obviously the 9 million+ monthly World of Warcraft (WoW) users would all go to see the World of Warcraft movie at least once - but Blizzard and the movie makers would need to attract many more millions around the world to a WoW movie to make it successful.

The likelyhood of the World of Warcraft movie going ahead is very strong - the panel members at BlizzCon all talking some detail about elements of the WoW movie.

Reports from BlizzCon suggest the WoW movie is in the 'scripting' stage - where they are discussing which classes will be there, and how they will fit together - but Blizzard is said to want as many aspects of the World of Warcraft game to be transferred into the World of Warcraft movie - to keep it attractive to all the WoW fans initially before targeting the greater market.

The final word about the World of Warcraft movie was around the type of film - cartoon / game style or with real actors? It seems real actors will be featured in the film with WoW film makers feeling that another cartoon / game style movie wouldn't work as well across all markets.

Death Knight Hero Class in WoW

More expansion rumors arise around World of Warcraft -

A new Warcraft continent called Northrend has been talked about. These are just rumors but it makes sense Blizzard are looking to keep their World of Warcraft franchise interesting and new for the millions of online WoW players, a feature list has also been leaked (in German - probably due to the Games Convention in Leipzig) and also an FAQ found. The continent of Northrend added to the world of Azeroth. Northrend is about the size of Outland.

A new "Hero" class added - the Death Knight; this class will need to be unlocked through certain criteria before it becomes available.
New Profession: Inscriptions - allowing you to permanently enhance spells and abilities.

Warcraft Bigger than Countries

World of Warcraft has now officially gone past the 9 millionth subscriber - elevating maker Blizzard into an astronomical position - virtually having a licence to print money.

The size of WoW is now bigger than the 90th ranked country in the world. The size of the World of Warcraft subscriber base is expected to grow rapidly in China now - with Blizzard and Chinese partner The9 ready to release expansion package The Burning Crusade into the country.

The World of Warcraft was released in November 2004 and surely Blizzard must be stunned by its continued popularity - continuing to grow years after release. The expansion packs continue to keep the game interesting and surely Blizzard will continue to release and ship new addons for WoW regularly.

Zul'Aman Instance - World of Warcraft

A new instance called the Zul'Aman Instance - is being released for the Burning Crusade addon in World of Warcraft.

WoW maker Blizzard paraded many parts of the non-keyed instance. One thing they were proud of was that rather than just having grunts standing around a campfire waiting for PCs to arrive, they changed things so that monsters look like they realistically react to people invading their area. So as Blizzard's character was lead into the area, they spotted a large troll who barked some orders, and sure enough, a bunch of little guys came running at us from around a corner, eager to repel the invaders.

Players will also see changes in the bear mounts the enemies have in the instance. Keeping with the animal theme, there are 4 mid-bosses in the instance before the final fight, and each is a troll merged with a different animal, that they can alter into. The order is bear, dragonhawk, lynx, and eagle. When players finally get to Zul'Jin, he will make use of all four forms in his attempt to wipe out the characters.

Arena killing World of Warcraft?

What the hell is hard about the concept that PvP weapons MUST be on par with raid weapons so non-raiders can compete in high level arena play to you people?

Is it the part where raiding doesn't automatically grant you a huge advantage in PvP (though it does, because a Stormherald = you can get 2 pieces of PvP armour ~6 weeks sooner, rating pending).

Is it the part where raiding is not a competitive process, whereas in arena your success is DIRECTLY related to how you can compete with other teams?

You may not be guaranteed the item in raiding, sure, but you do not need it to progress. In PvP the playing field needs to be reasonably equal such that new teams can actually break into the upper ratings without being gear-blocked for so long they never catch up.

The problem comes from Arena gear being better then raiding gear. It's sad that the arena season 2 feral hammer is better then a staff that drops in Hyjal (which needs it's stats re-done badly).

I find it funny that you think gear doesn't need to get better for raiders to progress also. So you think a kara geared group would stand a chance in BT past Shade and in Hyjal past Kaz'rogal(when the fights actually start getting hard)? The point of raiding gear was to be a bit higher then the gear a non raider gets. Now I do not expect me to be able to roll right over a non raider but its annoying that in PvP people can get gear that is better. And for you to think raiding isn't competitive.... well you obviously never have raided the top end raiding to see how competitive it really is.

WoW Glider Bot

A piece of software I used to use some time ago - was WoW Glider.

A very well coded piece of software, that lets you create a World of Warcraft 'bot'.

This bot allows you to set your WoW account on autopilot and play WoW for you while you are at work, away from home or anywhere really.

It's fairly simple to setup, it's cheap to register the software - the only catch is that Blizzard frown upon bot use and spend every minute trying to catch bot users.

Advertising inside WoW

Talk this week that Blizzard the makers and maintainers of World of Warcraft could throw the doors open to advertising companies to setup 'banners' and similar advertising techniques inside the WoW game.

Its an interesting concept, where companies for example Nike Shoes could have 'Nike Elf Boots' with their logo and title in the game, or taverns could advertise 'real world' beer types.

It could prove a massive money spinner for Blizzard (even on top of the money they make monthly with World of Warcraft) - the question is will it annoy WoW users? Will the advertising ruin the experience?

As WoW reaches middle age, it could be the spike in interest that Blizzard wants - the next few months will be interesting to see what develops.

WoW - The "Daze" Mechanic

We’ve looked into the "Daze mechanic" more and more to provide detailed information on how the mechanic functions - this will now hopefully explain some of the werid things and minor discrepancies that WoW players notice when running away from mobs and regularly being affected by “Daze”. It’s a big World of Warcraft topic that’s now been brought up heaps since the release of the game, and trying our hand at explaining it in a bit more detail was something that we thought was very important to help WoW players better know how it affects each of them.

First a big explanation on how the daze mechanic works. The chance to be dazed in WoW is determined a lot by the character’s base defense ratings (as compared to the mobs actual level), or technically speaking the defense of the hero / character versus the attack skill of the enemy mob (which is always maxed out at [5 x mob level]). A high level 70 mob would have an attack of like 350 when compared to a level 70’s hero / character defense rating of 350. The base chance is around 20% and this actually lowers or raises based on the overall difference between player defense and mob attack, to a minimum of 0% chance, or maximum of 40% chance.

This total formula is really in fact altered to have a lot lower chance to "daze characters" below the level 30 mark. Then the chance for a level 1 character to be "dazed" by an equal level mob is now less than 1%, and the overall chance then scales up to level 30 where it reaches the base 20% mark (assuming that an equal mob level vs defense at all times). This is to allow the players / heros still learning the game to avoid certain death as they may still not be accustomed to the game or how their character’s power compares to the mobs. As an example of this reduction for heros / characters under the level 30 mark, a level 10 hero / player would have an approximate 7% chance to be "dazed" against an equal level mob group. This lowered chance for the characters under 30 is more than likely the largest contributor in players comparing low-level characters to their level 70’s and then assuming a change was made in the expansion to increase the daze level.

Other important factors that may give a sense that the daze is occurring more and more often may include the lack of actual level 60 ranked mobs that are roaming throughout the leveling or questing areas in Azeroth, when compared to the large amount of level 70 (and higher) mobs roaming throughout Outland. As it’s based on probability there’s a good chance that you will run into streaks where you’re dazed more or less often. Aside from keeping a maxed defense rating the best thing you can do to keep from being dazed is to simply avoid the aggro radius of mobs you don’t intend to fight.

The actual WoW code has been looked over many times, and it’s a very plainly set comparison of mob to player. We find that the perceived increase to being dazed is a perception that is mainly influenced by some or all of the explanations above, and other variables. Through our WoW testing we’ve confirmed that the code is working properly, and all tests performed showed the chance to be dazed was well within what was expected.

Now that the game mechanic has been explained a bit better, and further testing has gone in to at least fact checking that we are within the realm of acceptable probability, we turn to the function of the daze mechanic and why it’s even in the game. The most basic explanation is that we want it to be scary to run near or through a group of monsters. Players should be avoiding them if they don’t want to engage in combat, and not running through or within aggro range without consequence. A cautious and more alert player is less likely to be dazed than one who is haphazard and careless. We certainly support more thoughtful and careful approaches to combat situations or travel routes, and we find the daze mechanic performing as expected in helping to encourage it.

Raid Attunements for SSC and TK Dropped

In a massively random WoW post, user Tigole said that you will no longer be needing to do the attunement quests in WoW to enter Tempest Keep or the Serpent Shrine.

After a hell of a lot of thought and deliberation, Blizzard decided to remove the attunement requirements in World of Warcraft to enter Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep: The Eye. While many of our attunements in the Burning Crusade have actually been good progression checks, a few other attunements have really turned out to cause unnecessary stress on the guilds either doing the content or attempting to actually do the content. With the Black Temple and Battle for Mount Hyjal thriving, we also want to encourage (rather than stop) newer guilds and the raid groups to attempt Serpentshrine and TK. We are also going to leave all the current attunement quests in the WoW game so that all players can still engage in the biggest challenge and the lore of those quests should they choose to. Possibly at a later point, we will be considering adding a final reward step to those quests as well (that way those who have already finished them would not miss out on an all *new* reward).

This is fairly big news and pretty shocking WoW news at that.

World of Warcraft Movie WoW Film

Exciting news as the big wigs of Blizzard and movie exec's talk of making a World of Warcraft Movie. Here's the latest talk about the possibility of a movie being made!

Recently Speaking at a Hollywood & Games Summit keynote (Legendary Pictures chairman Mr Thomas Tull discussed the possibility of a World of Warcraft film, saying the game has "all the right stuff" to make a big hit movie appealing beyond subscribers.

Mr Tull made the exciting comments at the 'Driving Mythology Forward' keynote he shared with all the film license-specific game publishers and Brash Entertainment CEO Mitch Davis, in which the two men discussed the parallels between the film and game industries.

“We’re now doing World of Warcraft, and making it into a movie," said Mr Tull, but then noted, "I have strong feelings -- from the movie side of things -- that making movies just based on games just because they sold well is a really bad idea. There has been some like that and just weren’t up to snuff just out of the gate."

He then continued, "It doesn’t matter to us if it’s based on a very graphic novel like [Frank Miller's] 300, or a good TV show – if there’s a great universe and a good story, that’s what’s interesting to us."

Speaking about the relative size of a game adaptation's potential audience, he noted, "Sure, there are now over 8 million people playing WoW, but even if all of those people saw the new movie multiple times, we’d still be screwed badly."

"It’s a jumping off point," he then concluded of the game's subscription base, "and we see it as larger than that. World of Warcraft has the right stuff to make it happen.”

WoW Addiction / Game Addiction

World of Warcraft (WoW) is one of the most powerfully addictive games in Cyberspace. Yes, your parent, wife or mate should be worried.

World of Warcraft players will know exactly what I am talking about. This game by it's nature, requires you to spend as much time as possible in the World of Warcraft, to increase your level, attend raids, or keep across whats happening with the latest auctions and equipment.

In the past, computer games and console units would keep players in front of screens for long periods. These were single player (player vs computer) type games, and parents in extreme cases would have to resort to 'switching the TV or console off'

These days, online games such as World of Warcraft, where users log in to play with thousands of other 'real' players - the addiction can be much greater.

Blizzard the makers of World of Warcraft require a monthly fee of 14.99 US from users, just so they can keep playing the game.

The basic goal of the game is to achieve a 'high level' or level 70 as it stands now. This very sheer nature of 'gaining levels' means a player must fight monsters, complete quests and the more time they spend playing WoW the quicker they achieve the level they need.

Now this is not some game thats over in a few days. Achieving level 70 by legitimate means in reasonable time usually takes some months. (Its possible to 'power level' and have someone get your character to level 70 in 1 week - but this is a paid service)

Parents have every right to be concerned. I was addicted to WoW for several months. It affected my work habits, my sleep patterns and my family was tearing their hair out as I buried myself in the computer room player WoW for hours on end.

I am a grown man, of 28 years. I hate to imagine, how parents of teens manage to control their WoW habit. Not only must their kids be playing world of warcraft for hours on end, the parents in many cases would be paying Blizzard for access to Wow. I got into the game, a friend introducing me - and I was forever trying to level my character as quickly as possible. I resorted to using 'bots' a program called WoW Glider - where is automatically plays and levels your hero while your at work, and spent hours at night 'grinding' as they call it, just killing monster after monster. Sad Sad. It probably took me 6 months to beat the addiction, finally getting bored of the game. (Thankfully before the Burning Crusade came out)

Maybe parents shouldn't pay for WoW access? Is this the only way to stop it? But is the addiction so bad that Wow might make the teens steal to pay for Wow cards? (Prepaid subscription cards are the main choice for those without a credit card)

WoW Arena 2 Season Still Delayed

The team at Blizzard continues to delay the start date for the new Arena Season 2 - date now put back to June 19th, which will allow additional detailed development and more testing time for the Blizzard /World of Warcraft Teams.

Due to even more additional development time and of course testing time needed Blizzard will be delaying the scheduled release of the small patch, and this leads to the start of Arena Season 2 release being delayed by one week, to June 19. This new current schedule is of course subject to change too.

World of Warcraft team ratings will be reset to the original / default 1500 - the start of the new arena 2 season, allowing each and every team to once again go and compete for top honors with a fresh start.

WoW Chinese Gold Farmers

An hour before 12 midnight, 3 hours into the big night shift with still nine more to go. A workstation in a very small, lightly fluorescent-lighted square office space in Nanjing, China, Li Qiwen sits shirtless and heavily chain-smoking, steely gazing purposefully at the hugely popular online computer game in front of him World of Warcraft. The PC screen showed a lightly wooded mountain terrain area, softly studded with castle ruins and several grazing deer, in which the warrior monks milled about.

Li, or rather his hero staff-wielding wizard character, had been busy slaying the enemy monks since 8 p.m that night, his mouse-clicking on one dead corpse after another picking up the loot as they call it, each time he is busy gathering a few dozen virtual coins — and maybe a magic weapon basic or expensive or two — into an increasingly laden virtual backpack.

12 hours a every night, that means seven nights a week, with only 2 or 3 nights off per month, this is what Chinese Li does — for a sole living. In 2006, the game on his screen was, as always, World of Warcraft or WoW for short, an online fantasy game title in which players, in the guise of self-created avatars — night-elf wizards, warrior orcs and other Tolkienesque characters — battle hard and find their way through the mythical realm of Azeroth, earning some points for every monster slain and rising, over many many months, from the blizzard made game’s lowest level of death-dealing power (1) to the very highest (70).

More than eight million people around the world play this World of Warcraft — thats one in every thousand on earth — and whenever Li is logged on, thousands of other players are, as well too. They share the game’s very vast, virtual world with him, converging in its towns to trade their big loot or turning up occasionally from time to time in Li’s own wooded corner of it, looking for their enemies to kill and coins to gather. Every World of Warcraft player needs those coins, and mostly for one reason: more coins pay for the virtual gear to fight the monsters to earn the big points or experience to reach the next level.

there are only two ways players can get as much of this virtual coin or money as the game requires: they can spend many hours collecting it or they can pay someone real money to do it for them.

Finishing each shift, then Li reports the night’s haul to his shift supervisor, and at the end of the week, and his nine co-workers, will be paid in full. Every 100 gold coins he gathers, Li makes 10 yuan, or about $1.25 per bag, earning a wage of 30 cents an hour. The supervisor boss, receives $3 or more when he sells those same coins to an online retailer, who will sell them to the final customer (an American,European or Australian player) for as much as $20.

The very small commercial space Li and his colleagues tend to work in — two rooms, one for the workers and another for the supervisor — along with a rudimentary workers’ dorm, a half-hour’s journey away, are the entire physical plant of this modest $80,000-a-year business. It is estimated that there are thousands of businesses like it all over China, neither owned nor operated by the game companies from which they make their money. Collectively they employ an estimated 100,000 workers, who produce the bulk of all the goods in what has become a $1.8 billion worldwide trade in virtual items. The polite name for these operations is youxi gongzuoshi, or gaming workshops, but to avid gamers throughout the world, they are better known as gold farms. While the Internet has produced some strange new job descriptions over the years, it is hard to think of any more surreal than that of the Chinese gold farmer.

The market for massively multiplayer online role-playing games, known as M.M.O.R.P.G’s, is a fast-growing one, WoW / World of Warcraft being a big one - with no fewer than 100 current titles and many more under development, all targeted at a player population that totals around 30 million worldwide. World of Warcraft, produced in Irvine, Calif., by Blizzard Entertainment, is one of the most profitable computer games in history, earning close to $1 billion a year in monthly subscriptions and other revenue. In a typical M.M.O., as in a classic predigital role-playing game like Dungeons & Dragons, each player leads his fantasy character on a life of combat and adventure that may last for months or even years of play. As has also been true since D. & D., however, the romance of this imaginary life stands in sharp contrast to the plodding, mathematical precision with which it proceeds.

Phoenix Mount Info - Its There!

Nethaera and Eyonix have both smartly pointed out on internet forums before, the Phoenix mount is certainly in game now (June 07). I had the honor to learn sadly recently, it's not in the place that many might think it is.

Well, the first one isn't. For The others -- well, nobody else but Blue has even the vaguest idea where those things are going to drop. (Most people figure on realm Kael'thas or Al'ar in Tempest Keep as the main or only drop source for the Phoenix Mount item, much like the older tiger mount drops in ZG from the main tiger boss, and the creature Baron drops his own mount in Stratholme.)

The Worlds very First phoenix mount belongs to Ezra Chatterton, a young man who went to Blizzard's offices with Make-A-Wish foundation. Young Ezra was given the very first ever Phoenix mount in game for two main reasons.

It was probably the best gift that Blizzard could really give any online gamer as far as one of the new Outland mounts. Sure, Netherdrakes are awesome, but a phoenix mount trumps that,

Who wouldn't want a mount that could move at 310% speed like the the Swift Nether Drake arena award mount, impressive. Secondly, as little Ezra's father Micah explained to me, the phoenix mount is an extremely important personal symbol for Ezra.

The actual phoenix is an picture that has constantly recurred in Ezra's life over the past years, this is mostly because it's his middle name, and then I think that a little person will usually take any chance they can get to even more closely connect with their given names. His older mother and I named him that mainly because, as teenage parents with an art fetish, we then thought it was very cool. Also, the ordeal of then becoming a father and mother at ages 16 heavily attracted us to the main concept of the resurrection and the rebirth, and rising high above the ashes of a very difficult situation. Not to the credit the name per se, but then I have always been a very proud father of Ezra's ability to cope with very difficult times in his own little lifee. He's been strongly able to go through things, before the onset of cancer, that I couldn't even imagine dealing with as a small child, and still retain his overly generous spirit and massive spark of imagination.

The first thing he recently said when he saw, from a very safe distance, that our house was going up in roaring flames last February was: "I really liked that house." The next thing he uttered, seeing my hellish fear and massive panic start to well up, was: "At least nobody's got hurt. It'll be o.k. because we're all still safe." It was the kind of thing a grown-up would say to each other the very next day or a good week later to put their loss well into perspective, not the kind of thing you'd expect a 9 year old kid to say before the local fire department even got there. That's the kind of person he always is, and that's the kind of rising up that he does, so when he had the opportunity to choose a phoenix flying mount as the crowning gift for Ephoenix from Blizzard, he took it.

There was some concern around about having the mount initially, as Micah was a tad worried some competing players might be unhappy about him being the first to have such a great rare item. I'm glad to report back that recently his guild, 32nd Fleet, organized a large gathering in Shattrath to help get the word out big time that Ezra was recently gifted the World First Phoenix mount item exclusively. After that, Ezra's been able to enjoy flying his mount around the skies of Outland.

Micah then said that the model is "one of the most gorgeous and impressive character designs," although Ezra was a little bit distracted by the phoenix mount model having no feet whatsoever.

Most of all, Micah wanted to mainly express to everyone how very thankful and totally overwhelmed he is at how the WoW / World of Warcraft community has reached out to Ezra. As he said in a recent email to me, "I'm very proud of our large community, Krystalle, and I am so completely and utterly thankful that the prayers and support people have been sending us have given Ezra something good to keep in his mind."

WoW Arena Season 2 Delay

Due to additional Blizzard development time and requirements for testing needed we will be delaying the scheduled release of the WoW patch, and thus the start of the Arena Season 2 will be dealyed by one week, to June 19.

This current schedule is subject to change, so please don't expect the date to be 100% set in stone - Blizzard.

Also, don't forget that WoW / Arena team ratings will be reset to the default 1500 with the start of the new season gets underway, allowing all teams to once again compete for top honors with a fresh start.

Maps for WoW (Mapwow.com)

I found a very handy site today, which for WoW regulars might prove handy. I know after spending a lot of time playing World of Warcraft you do get familiar with the surroundings and you get to know your way around the map pretty easily. However even some regulars to WoW might find the website MapWoW.com handy. Map WoW is similar to Google Images and portrays the whole WoW continent in a top down view with intricate details.(The Map Wow system is actually coded in the GoogleMaps.com format, giving you all the tools you can use on regular maps.) You can choose to name the regions or areas, and can scroll right down to get a more detailed low level view. You can use the mouse to 'grab' and 'drag' the WoW map and really scroll right around - exploring at will. (This mapping would be ideal to find your own quiet farming region on the map)

Here's an excerpt from the website explaining how their mapping system works:

The mapping in MapWoW - utilizes the full blown Google Maps API and therefore behaves exactly just a like a Google Map. Clicking on the controls on the left side of the map will let you zoom in and out. Users dragging the map around simply, it lets you scroll the map and view different areas. It's that easy.

Use the menu to the right of the map to select resources and labels that you wish to display. Currently you can display herbs, ore, treasure, zone names, and city names. There are over 15,000 data points covering 69 resources with their exact map location in our database. The bottom of the menu provides quick links to popular locations in the game. Found a great area that you want to share with your friends? Go to the location on the map, click on the "Link to this Location" and then copy the URL.

WoW Arena Combat Season 2

The next WoW upcoming patch from Blizzard games will contain a few bug fixes, and the long awaited season 2 for arena combat!

The new arena equipment will be of higher quality than the current gear, and will likely bear the graphical appearance of the Tier 5 riding equipment (WoW developers, when asked about this, have stated that the intention is for higher arena gear to look similar to the raiding gear to allow easy distinction of the quality of the gear a character is wearing).

In addition to this, the current season's arena gear is receiving a reduction in price. This is to make the lower quality gear slightly more appealing. So if you really want some of the current gear, wait until the patch (and save some arena points!).

Finally, the patch is also going to reset every WoW Arena team's rating to 1500. This is so the arena acts like a traditional sporting contest (and so each season all teams get a fresh start).

Blizzard has said this patch has been delayed, and is currently scheduled for release on the 19th of June.

Illidan Loots - WoW

The drops from Illidan, if you thought drops from earlier raids were insane. You should check out the drops from the first Illidan deaths.

Recently as we posted Illidan was taken down by the guild: Nihilun - very famous and classed as possibly the best WoW - World of Warcraft guild in the world, the boys from nihilun took down Illidan and were first to see the great drops / loots from this boss.

There were two drops, they were: a staff and a shield. The previous raids shields best was 5000 armour approx. these new drops are around the 6336 armour which dwarfs the old rate. The Staff has stats such as: 70 stamina, 47 int, 259 spell damage and 55 spell haste and 36 spell crit rating. This is major power here guys.

It will be interesting to see if any other guilds are able to quickly take down Illidan.

I've enjoyed reading this thread and I think there are a lot of valid points and views here.

(Disclaimer: I've also been following the threads on the WoW Forums that are similar and wanted to respond there but the forums are down!)

I think there is some nostalgia going on here though. Either that or we're watching a textbook case of the "grass is always greener" going on. In WoW 1.0, we faced many complaints about the lack of raiding options. We were often criticized with coming out with new raid content "at a snail's pace." In fact, I challenge anyone to find a thread from Winter 2005 where people are talking about how awesome the pacing of the raid content was.

Some other things to remember. You *could* skip some of AQ 40 in your progression if you wanted to. This was viewed as an interesting debate (having options is a good thing, yes?). Not a design flaw. We're always looking to give players options -- from PvP (multiple arenas, battlegrounds), to 5 mans to raiding. My biggest criticism of our 10 person raiding game right now (I have a few) is that there are no options beyond KZ. We're fixing that. But you get my point. Players need options.

I'll go ahead and make a controversial statement to illustrate a point. Let's pretend for a moment that Burning Crusade never came out and we were still in vanilla WoW land. The community, as a whole, would have eventually screamed bloody muder over the difficulty of the Four Hoursemen. The Four Hoursemen were considered one of our best tuned encounters in the game. But I'll argue that's because so few people actually progressed to the point of needing to beat them. And the ones who did beat them, were ok with going to extreme measures to do so (consumables, world buffs, server transfers for tanks in 4 peice dreadnaught). A fight that requires 8 tanks is *not* acceptable to the raiding community as a whole. A fight that requires 8 tanks was acceptable to the bleeding edge only (and their fans) and only because it seperated them from the rest -- not because that's what made a *fun* raiding experience. How fun was it for the hunter who got benched for Warrior #8? How fun was it for the guild who lost their main tank when he server transfered to be a part of one of the World Firsts?

For the place and time, Four Horsemen were great. They were beatable and mostly bug free.

While we're on the topic of Naxx, I want to remind everyone that during it's initial opening, almost ALL of the bosses died within the same period that the BT bosses are dying. People forget that because of the Four Horsemen wall. If raid content is tuned correctly, it will die relatively fast (UNLESS it requires some sort of progression check -- Onyxia Cloak, resist check). Even straight up gear checks are very dicey. More often than not that lead's to excessive raid stacking rather than a true gearing up.

Another thing to keep in mind is the PTR. In order to release the highest quality encounters, we put the content on the PTR. This happened with Naxx as well. It's not surprising that the three EU guilds who have progressed the furthest in Black Temple are also the guilds that spent the most time on the PTR. While it's "only taken them 2 weeks" to kill most of the content in BT, we've been watching them rep on the dungeon for 2 months now.

Properly tuned and accessible raid content will die. It's ok. We'll make more. That's what we do for a living. What's really important is for the content to be enjoyable to do for more than just one clearing. Because after all, your priest wants his shoulders off of Boss X or your tank wants that shield off of Boss Y. It should be epic to kill a boss like Illidan or Kael. But it shouldn't be epic because no one is doing it because they are overtuned or bugged out.

My opinions on Black Temple? Najentus is tuned perfectly -- we wanted a "reward" boss for getting in. Akama is a tad easier than we had hoped but he's a really cool, fun fight so it works out. Reliquary of Souls is just where we wanted it to be -- it's very hard. Teron is a hard fight until people know what they are doing at which point it becomes easy. The more guilds that kill Teron, the easier the fight becomes for everyone.

I think the raid game is in a very good place right now. Raiders of all skill levels and time commitments have a variety of options. There *are* some extremely challenging and rewarding fights in the game (Kael, Reliquary, Archimonde, Illidan). Raid tuning walks the razor blade. Things that make raids *seem* more challenging (trash, raid stacking, consumables, resist checks, attunements, limited access, limited tries) are usually perceived as tedious or "progression blockers" and the complaints fire away. But I'll reiterate, a well tuned raid boss -- even a very hard and complex one -- will die quickly if it's tuned properly and bug free.

I'll leave you guys with a question. How many people posting in this thread that the Black Temple is too easy have killed a boss in Black Temple?

Blizzard Cease and Desist Order WoW

Makers of World of Warcraft, Blizzard - have now gotten tough with peons for hire. The companies that farm, advertise, market and sell gold for use within the WoW game are now being told to shape up or be sued.

A cease and desist order from Blizzard hits the peons for hire, right between the eyes. And WoW players while happy to get rid of in game message spam from peons - are worried that they can't shortcut and buy gold in the future for their WoW heros.

Here is the Blizzard Post on the World of Warcraft Official Forums:

As many of you know, the latest content patch, along with many great new content additions, contains technical counter-measures designed to combat in-game gold spamming. Our efforts to reduce in-game abuse and create a fun, safe environment for everyone are never-ending.

With that said, we felt that it was important to share with the community just how serious we are in our efforts to combat this type of abuse. Blizzard has filed a federal lawsuit against the operators of Peons4hire, a popular gold-selling organization which many of you have no doubt seen advertised. As part of the lawsuit, the operators of Peons4hire have been asked to immediately cease all in-game spamming efforts by all entities and websites under their control.

If this organization refuses to act accordingly, further legal action will be taken. We'll be sure to keep you posted on the progress of this topic.

WoW Priest Build Strategy

The simple idea on World of Warcraft, is to use a hero that isn't as common as others. A healing character in WoW such as a priest can be spec'd as a damage dealing evil old bastard of a priest or a new school good guy who is born to heal.

As many don't play a priest hero (apart from ALT or alternate characters) on WoW accounts, then make sure you grab or setup a new hero Priest and play and level that old guy until he is huge. You will be in high demand from guilds and never be short of a fight or raid team.

Priests are key to winning and dominating all nerds on WoW - so don't be silly and create one now. Let us know any special or commanding builds for your WoW priest.

Peons 4 Hire - Bad, Risky and Illegal

Blizzard the makers of World of Warcarft or WoW - are going after gold vendors or peons for hire - who spam the WoW servers offering gold for sale. This is a constant annoyance to nerdy WoW players and Blizzard are pushing hard to cut this stuff out.

Becareful, if you're caught buying gold from peons you could have your wow / warcraft account suspended - bad news! nerds will commit suicide in some instances where their account has been banned or suspended.

although maybe a nerd family might sue blizzard for their son committing suicide or something - could be a good money spinner.

so remember peons 4 hire = bad news, stay right away!

Wow Farming and Player Levelling

For those that dont have time to play hours of WoW / World of Warcraft themselves. (Those that actally have a life, job or regular girlfriend - never fear!

No longer will nerdy kids out level you in Wow.

There are bots in wow, and while illegal these bots such as WowGlider - will use scripts to move and play your character through the day. Very handy, and level your little hero up.

Farmers in wow also use bots to make gold, and find items and sell these at the vendors and auction houses etc.

Also another option is player levelling by companies or little chop shops in parts of Asia. These poor little devils on 20c an hour will play your character for you and level you up all day while you work, sleep or wotever you do.. ahem.

Now the risk here is they may keep any epic or cool items they find while farming for you. but still it's not abad ploy if you arent a nerd playing 20 hrs aday. hahaha.

World of Warcraft requires you to pick a 'home' server. The army of programmer nerds over at Blizzard have created hundreds of these servers as they market their game to millions over the world. Multiple WoW servers allow for faster game times, otherwise such a big mmoprg would be impossible on a single server.

Man, those guys at Blizzard must be making a fortune from the WoW game alone. So many millions of online players, having to fork out $19 USD each month - you do the math, it's simply huge. Couple this success with the fact that Blizzard make Starcraft and other big name games - it's a economy all to itself. Blizzard recently released Starcraft 2 to a massive audience in Korea. The Koreans love starcraft and it's virtually a national sport.

Lets hope Blizzard put their money to good use and bring us some more exciting stuff soon. Don't forget their other huge hit Warcraft 3 - a favourite by modders, who have brought out the brilliant and addictive DOTA and Tower Defences (TDs) as their known.

Horde or Alliance in WoW? Choosing

Who do you choose? Horde or Alliance.

The answer is pretty simple on World of Warcraft. WoW alliance players are generally young, dorky kids or like things like spiderman, skippy, disney and cartoons. Mummy buys them WoW and lets them play for a little while each night. The alliance users get hammered in raids and battlegrounds and are a laughing stock to everyone else. You can tell the alliance kiddies on the text they write and display in game. very funny.

Horde on the other hand are older more serious wow players. possibly nerdy guys who don't have girlfriends, are over weight, have no chance of getting laid ever and the ones that are married are generally gunna get a divorce soon cuz they play too much wow. The horde guys are very powerful and plan their work to the hilt, known in some countries for killing people in real life for failed raids and group guild work the horde means business. look out!

So if your young dorky, emo or newb - go for the alliance. you have all your disney and peter pan fun while you play as a happy hero.

If you old, dorky and a virgin - stick to horde. it suits you well. dont mess up, you might get killed.

WoW Guilds - Are they Good?

Simply yes.

As world of warcraft gets more and more intense and requires more players to beat certain monsters. If you're in a guild - you will have allies to help you fight certain monsters and claim the win that much easier.

Many WoW guilds have forums and are very well run, some major players being Nazgul and many more.

Some are smaller guilds, others are larger and go about creating havoc in a terrorist style.

Terrorist Guild Holds WoW Server Hostage

The Imperial Order, a WoW guild on the Detheroc server, is holding the server hostage. The guild has completed the various quests needed to obtain a septer used to ring a gong. Ringing the gong will open the gates giving everyone on the server access to new content, but the guild refuses to do it. At least, they refuse to do it until someone pays them 5,000 gold.

They say they'd rather be known as the obnoxious guild that held their server hostage than forgotten as the kind guild that opened new content.

Nobody remembers the fair and quietly intelligent people we meet in their daily lives, but everyone remembers those who ruin their day.
We'll have plenty of time to conquer this new content, but for now we see an endless novelty in holding it hostage. And this is what we will continue to do: Hold it hostage.

Long overdue, this site is dedicated to the World of Warcraft by Blizzard Games.

World of Warcraft or WoW as it's know by players is a virtual world enjoyed by millions of players world wide. MMORPG is the style of game, massive online role playing game.
